Year 1 Curriculum Web – Summer 2 2021

The theme for our final half term in Year 1 is ‘At the Seaside’. We will be looking at local attractions and celebrating the area we live in. There are lots of lovely books that we will be sharing including ‘At the Beach’ by Roland Harvey and ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ by David and Ronda Armitage. These will inspire us to write postcards, plan picnics, explore rock pools and make our own lighthouses.

In Maths we will cover the units Position and Direction, Money and Time.

It will be a busy half term with lots of exciting things to look forward to including a birthday celebration for the Queen, Sports Day, a visit to our new school and hopefully a day trip to the beach. And we shall be getting ready to move up to Year 2!

Y1 Curriculum Web – Summer 2021

In Year 1 this term we will be delving into the exciting world of discoveries, learning about the disaster that destroyed London in 1666 and finding out about a man called Samuel Pepys.

In our daily phonics sessions we will continue to focus on learning Phase 5 phonemes which will help us to develop our skills in both reading and writing.

In Maths we are working with numbers to 50 and beyond, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, and finding measurements in length, weight, height and volume

Due to restrictions that have been put in place across the country our learning will look rather different. For those children staying safe at home remote learning can be accessed through Class Dojo and will be updated daily.

Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to Year 1! Mrs Marshall is our teacher and Mrs Varley and Mrs Wood support us in class every day.

Life in Year 1 can get very busy - we are learning to be independent and are developing our skills across the curriculum but especially in reading, phonics, writing and maths. Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and we encourage the children to share books at home and at school. Please ensure that your child brings their reading record every day.

Our themes this year will be:

Autumn:  Now and Then – how life has changed

               Florence Nightingale

               Wonderful Weather

Spring:    Discoveries

               Great Fire of London

               Amazing Authors

Summer: Being human

               The Seaside
